Description

A visualization of the death penalty in the form of a dystopian prison cell. Made of an automated smart concrete, the opening gradually closes up upon the completion of a death sentence, forming into a coffin.

The coffin model started with using PolyFX to displace and configure the subdivide cube geo. I also utilized XParticle trials to create the teeth like cell bars.

The figure’s model was created by applying a matrix to Voronoi fracture the mesh.

I used fractal noise patterns in After Effects to create a texture, which was imported into an Octane material to use as a displacement and emission map. It was combined with a concrete bump map and texture for the balance of futuristic but ancient looking at the same time.

I used a multi-point lighting setup to give the piece proper dimension. I then chose an isometric lens to highlight the geometry of the coffin and a wider angle lens to made the figure more dynamic.

I gave it 7 different render passes in Octane to have better control over the final composite in After Effects & Photoshop.
